Company Spokesman Predicts That EU Will Overturn Decision Banning Online Gambling In Germany

As of January 1 of this year, online gambling has been banned in Germany, but Paddy Power the online and land based betting group which is based in Ireland does not appear to be bothered by this.

A company spokesperson explained that the likely impact on the group’s profits would probably be minimal and playing down the overall effects said that losses were expected to not be significant within the context of the firm's overall group profits. The Groups overall profits are projected to be Euro 60 million during this financial year.

He agreed with the opinions of other spokesmen from other European online gaming concerns that expectations are that the ban will be overturned by the European Commission. This is based on the ban’s representing non-compliance with certain EU principles these most important being the free movement of trade and services between member nations.

The main German companies have already announced that they will be challenging the ban in the courts.
