New South Wales Shows Cooperation Toward Betfair Request While Western Australia Shows The Oppose
While it seems that Western Australia is looking to bring litigation against the betting exchange Betfair, in contrast, the point-of-view with regard to the betting exchange concept pioneered by and growing rapidly in Australia was made known this week when the New South Wales government encouraged the opportunity to work with the company.
While the case of the Western Australian government went down to defeat last week, now the New South Wales authorities are saying that Australia’s High Court has granted its plan to tax and regulate the operations of the online betting exchange in New South Wales.
This revolution made known by the New South Wales authorities comes soon after the ruling of the High Court last week stating that a Western Australian law design to ban citizens from participating in betting exchanges is in fact unconstitutional.
CEO Peter V'landys, head of Racing NSW reported to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation that the New South Wales plan is precisely what was requested by the High Court. They are saying that they will continue to assure that competition is balanced and that all players are assessed the same fee.
He points out the Court's findings that it is unlawful to discriminate against anyone or to show favor toward any one individual.
