The ball is now in the net of the Prime Minister's office
According to a report issuing from the Dow Jones business news service, the government of France is still thinking about consequences of making gambling on the Internet legal subject to rigid rules of control. Prime Minister Francois Fillon’s office is at the moment dealing with the topic and mulling over a 2007 November research commission which the government received not long ago.
At the moment, all the online money games are prohibited in France, apart from the state franchises of Francaise des Jeux and pari–mutual – pool wagers – of the PMU horse racing wagers. Nevertheless, France has been pressured increasingly by European Commission to adhere to the treaty of the European Union in respect to competing freely with other countries of the union.
The research finds identification options for developing the current individual market in France, including licensing which apart from lotteries restricts sports events betting on the Internet as well as card games wagers or providing licenses for all games.
According to the sources, the research does not appear to foresee vast gambling in France of online games. It seems that the research states that legalizing Internet slot machines could be in opposition to the common aims of interest in France, which comprises the defense of players against becoming addicted and thwarting money laundering and embezzlement.
