Walking off with Euro 537,000 made for a nice day for one Australian
This week at the World Poker Tour Spanish Championship which took place in Barcelona, Markus Lehmann played a low profile yet clever game, when he started playing using one of the lower chip stacks. At first this well known poker pro did not appear to be a winner, but although at first appearing to be losing, this Austrian came back from his losing position to demonstrate to everyone how the game is played. In the end he went home with the top prize of Euro 537,000.
Before the heads up that took place between France’s Ludovic Lacay and Austria’s Lehmann could take place, there was a major poker showdown between such hard hitters as Gus Hansen (who took fifth place), Steve Sung (who took fourth place) and Christer Johansson (who took third place) all of whom were eliminated living the two finalists at the final table.
Complete control of the game was firmly assumed by Lehmann during this last confrontation with the ultimate results in no way delayed as it became increasing clear that Lehmann was definitely destined to come out as the winner following his winning of several of the major pots. It was Lehmann who seated out as the overall winner when he succeeded in flopping the winning top pair allowing him to beat Lacay's second ranking pair. Coming in at second place permitted Lacay to pick up a substantial check for Euro 295,200.
