Some feel that Lazer Wager may have gone too far with disaster oriented marketing
The difference between marketing initiatives that are based on recent events and the perception of others that you are acting to take advantage of the hardships of others is often divided by a thin line. This boundaries were tested this weak through a press release coming from sportsbetting and poker site Lazer Wager that was recently set up.
This week, the site which is owned by Trailhead SA and which is managed through the efforts of the former staff recruited by its British owners, from Bet On Sports com and Nine, Lazer Wager, offered up a $10 000 reward. This was for any information that might lead to the arrest and capture of anyone who may have been instrumental in setting any of the horrible fires that ravaged California recently.
Although treated properly this move could have been viewed as highly applauded for its being public spirited, but this only if the company had contributed the cash to Governor Schwartzenegger's initiative to hunt down those responsible, what in fact the company finally did is being seen as callous and exploitative in deed of those people whose lives were lost in this disastrous fire.
They are providing each displaced individual Californian resident with $15, but only for playing in their casino. This was stated in a press release that many believe crosses the line as being a serious error in judgment.
